Biography
Jonathan Freeman is an American actor, puppeteer and singer. He is known for voicing Jafar in Disney's 1992 animated film Aladdin and numerous related productions, including the direct-to-video sequel The Return of Jafar (1994), video games such as the Kingdom Hearts series, and the Broadway musical adaptation of Aladdin, which he originated in 2011 and performed in until 2022.
Freeman trained at Ohio University. His stage work includes a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for the 1994 revival of She Loves Me, as well as roles in Broadway productions of The Little Mermaid, Mary Poppins, The Producers and 42nd Street. He performed puppeteering and voice work as Tito Swing on the PBS series Shining Time Station (1989–1995). Other screen credits include The Ice Storm (1997) and The High Note (2020).
