Biography
José Lewgoy (16 November 1920 – 10 February 2003) was a Brazilian actor. Born in Veranópolis, Rio Grande do Sul, to a Russian father and an American mother, he began his career in 1949 and appeared in more than one hundred films over five decades.
He is best known internationally for his role as Don Aquilino in Werner Herzog's Fitzcarraldo (1982). Other notable credits include Kiss of the Spider Woman (1985), Blame It on Rio (1984), Cobra Verde (1987) and Moon Over Parador (1988). Lewgoy frequently played villainous characters in Brazilian cinema and also worked extensively in television.
