Biography

Joseph R. Jennings (1921–2015) was an American art director and production designer. He worked extensively in television from the late 1960s, serving as art director on the series Gunsmoke (1967–1975, 150 episodes) and the miniseries Roots (1977) and Shōgun (1980). His film credits as production designer include Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982), Yellowbeard (1983) and Johnny Dangerously (1984).

Jennings was art director on Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979), earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Art Direction. He also contributed production design to the miniseries North and South (1985) and other television projects through the early 1990s.
