Biography
Joslyn Barnes is a film producer and writer. She is president and co-founder, with actor Danny Glover, of Louverture Films, a New York-based company specialising in international arthouse fiction and feature documentaries.
She has produced or co-produced films including Bamako (2006), The Black Power Mixtape 1967-1975 (2011), Cemetery of Splendour (2015), White Sun (2016), Zama (2017), Strong Island (2017), Hale County This Morning, This Evening (2018) and Memoria (2021). For Strong Island she received an Emmy Award for Exceptional Merit in Documentary Filmmaking and an Academy Award nomination for Best Documentary Feature; Hale County This Morning, This Evening brought a further Oscar nomination in the same category.
Barnes produced and co-wrote the screenplay for Nickel Boys (2024) with director RaMell Ross, adapted from Colson Whitehead’s novel. The film received Academy Award nominations for Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay.
