Biography
Judith Light is an American actress. She was born on 9 February 1949 in Trenton, New Jersey, and graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a BFA in drama. She made her professional stage debut in 1970 and her Broadway debut in the 1975 revival of A Doll's House.
Light's television breakthrough came as Karen Wolek on the soap opera One Life to Live (1977–1983), for which she won two Daytime Emmy Awards. She later starred as Angela Bower on the sitcom Who's the Boss? (1984–1992). In 2014 she began playing Shelly Pfefferman on the series Transparent, a role that earned her Golden Globe, Primetime Emmy and Critics' Choice Television Award nominations.
On stage she won Tony Awards for Best Featured Actress in a Play for Other Desert Cities (2012) and The Assembled Parties (2013). She has also appeared in Ugly Betty, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and films including The Menu (2022) and tick, tick... BOOM! (2021).
