Biography
Julian Barry (born Julian Barry Mendelsohn Jr.) was an American screenwriter and playwright. He began his career in the theatre as an actor and stage manager on Broadway productions in the 1950s and early 1960s before turning to writing.
Barry wrote for television series including Mission: Impossible (1966) and The Wackiest Ship in the Army (1966). He achieved wider recognition with his play Lenny (1971), which he adapted into an Oscar-nominated screenplay for the 1974 film directed by Bob Fosse. Other screen credits include Rhinoceros (1974), Eyes of Laura Mars (1978, uncredited) and The River (1984). He also wrote the PBS telefilm A Marriage: Georgia O'Keeffe and Alfred Stieglitz (1991).
Barry published an autobiography, My Night with Orson, in 2011. He died in Beverly Hills, California, in 2023.
