Biography

Julie Newmar is an American actress, dancer and singer. Born Julia Chalene Newmeyer on 16 August 1933 in Los Angeles, California, she trained in ballet and studied at UCLA before entering films. Her early screen credit includes the role of Bride Dorcas Galen in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954), under the name Julie Newmeyer.

Newmar made her Broadway debut in Silk Stockings (1955) and won the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play for The Marriage-Go-Round (1958), which she later reprised in the 1961 film adaptation. She is known for playing Catwoman in the television series Batman (1966–1967) and appeared in other series including My Living Doll (1964–1965) and The Twilight Zone (1960). Later credits include a cameo as herself in To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar (1995).
