Karolina Wydra

In Pluribus (2025), Karolina Wydra makes being relaxed look faintly alarming. Her Zosia is the liaison for a hive mind, played with a physical ease that makes serenity difficult to trust. We found her calm unsettling, because it gives compulsory happiness such a reassuring human representative. Vince Gilligan’s series is worth the patience it asks for, and Wydra helps by making its offer of happiness look reasonable.

Her television breakthrough came as Dominika Petrova in House (2011–2012), an immigrant in a marriage of convenience. Violet Mazurski, the fierce vampire she played in True Blood (2013–2014), was a different part within a career often restricted to alluring or dangerous women. The film work includes Dr. Katya Petrovna in the found-footage science fiction of Europa Report (2013). David Lynch’s Twin Peaks revival (2017) offered a less glamorous appearance as Chloe.

Wydra’s preparation includes meditation, dream work and physical techniques, all useful context for a performance built around relaxation. Rhea Seehorn gives Pluribus its stubborn human centre; Wydra has the less demonstrative task of remaining unflappable beside her. Gilligan gets something valuable from that difference, since the promise of happiness becomes harder to dismiss when its representative looks so much at ease. We rate Wydra here because she sustains the discomfort without needing to advertise menace.

Pluribus does sometimes move too slowly, and Wydra’s composure cannot keep every question interesting indefinitely. We recommend it with that reservation, rather than pretending a controlled performance solves a problem of pace. There is also a danger in making restraint the only quality we ask of her after so many parts built around allure or aggression. Zosia gives her more to do, but should not become another casting requirement. We would welcome a substantial part that lets her be impatient, untidy or openly furious.
