Biography
Karriem Riggins is an American composer, jazz drummer, record producer, DJ and songwriter. Born on 25 August 1975 in Detroit, Michigan, he began his career in jazz, performing with artists including Betty Carter and later collaborating extensively in hip-hop.
He is known for his long association with rapper Common, with whom he has worked on albums and scored the Netflix series Mo (2022–2025). Riggins composed the score for Mo alongside Common and Patrick Warren, and contributed to the soundtracks of 13th (2016), Just Mercy (2019) and Alice (2022). He received a Primetime Emmy Award for the song "Letter to the Free".
Riggins has also released solo albums and worked with musicians across genres, including J Dilla, Madlib and Diana Krall.
