Biography

Katy Garretson is an American television director and former assistant director. Born Kathleen Elizabeth Garretson in Nuremberg, West Germany, she graduated from the University of Southern California with degrees in journalism and business communications. She began her career as a stand-in and DGA trainee before working as an assistant director on features including Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (1991) and several television movies.

Garretson served as an assistant director on the sitcom Frasier (1993–2004) before making her directorial debut on the series in its sixth season. She directed multiple episodes of Frasier and later episodes of series including 2 Broke Girls, Fuller House, Reba, George Lopez and Young & Hungry. In 2012 she received the Frank Capra Lifetime Achievement Award from the Directors Guild of America.
