Biography
Kazuya Tsurumaki (鶴巻 和哉) is a Japanese anime director and animator. Born on 2 February 1966 in Gosen, Niigata, he trained as an animator and joined Gainax in the early 1990s.
He served as assistant director on the television series Neon Genesis Evangelion (1995) under Hideaki Anno, contributing storyboards and episode direction. Tsurumaki later directed the OVA series FLCL (2000) and Aim for the Top 2! Diebuster (2004), and worked as a director on the Rebuild of Evangelion film series (2007–2021). He has also directed The Dragon Dentist (2017) and serves as series director on Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX.
