Biography
Kenyon Hopkins was an American composer and arranger. He studied music theory and composition at Oberlin College and Temple University, graduating from the latter in 1933. He worked as an arranger for conductors including André Kostelanetz and Paul Whiteman, and later served as chief composer and arranger at Radio City Music Hall from 1951 to 1961.
Hopkins composed scores for numerous films, often in a jazz idiom. His credits include Baby Doll (1956), 12 Angry Men (1957), The Strange One (1957), The Fugitive Kind (1960), Wild River (1960), The Hustler (1961), Lilith (1964), This Property Is Condemned (1966) and Downhill Racer (1969). He also worked extensively in television, serving as music director for series including East Side/West Side and later as director of music for Paramount Television on shows such as The Brady Bunch and The Odd Couple.
Hopkins received Emmy nominations for his television work. He died in Princeton, New Jersey, in 1983.
