Biography
Kleber Mendonça Filho is a Brazilian film director, screenwriter and producer. Born on 22 November 1968 in Recife, Pernambuco, he holds a journalism degree from the Federal University of Pernambuco and began his career as a film critic and journalist before directing short films.
His narrative feature debut Neighbouring Sounds (2012) was followed by Aquarius (2016) and Bacurau (2019), the latter co-directed with Juliano Dornelles. Subsequent features include Pictures of Ghosts (2023) and The Secret Agent (2025), on which he also served as writer and producer. The latter won him the Best Director award at the Cannes Film Festival.
He has produced several of his own projects and previously worked as a programmer for the Joaquim Nabuco Foundation.
