Biography
Konstantin Shayne (born Konstantin Veniaminovich Olkenitski; 29 November 1888 – 15 November 1974) was a Russian-American actor. He was born in Kharkov, Russian Empire (now Kharkiv, Ukraine), to the family of a Jewish actor, and was the brother of actress Tamara Shayne. World War I prevented him from joining the Moscow Arts Theatre; he fought with General Wrangel and the White Armies during the conflict before emigrating to the United States.
Shayne appeared in numerous Hollywood films from the late 1930s to the mid-1960s. He is known for roles in For Whom the Bell Tolls (1943), Five Graves to Cairo (1943), None but the Lonely Heart (1944), The Stranger (1946), The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (1947), Cry of the City (1948) and 5 Fingers (1952). His performance as Pop Leibel in Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo (1958) was among his final film appearances.
