Biography
Lalita Ahmed is an actor. She was born Lalita Chatterjee on 25 November 1939 in Lucknow, British India. She worked for All India Radio before moving to London in the 1950s, where she joined the Hindi language department of BBC World Service Radio.
Ahmed has presented Asian programmes for BBC television and Indian cookery on BBC Pebble Mill. She has written several cookery books. Her film roles include the Customer in Eastern Promises (2007) and Mrs Islam in Brick Lane (2007). She has also appeared in numerous British television series and other films such as Bhaji on the Beach (1993).
