Biography

Larry Hankin is an American character actor. Born in New York City on 7 December 1937, he graduated from Syracuse University and trained with the Second City improvisational theatre group. In 1963 he moved to San Francisco, where he co-founded the improv troupe The Committee.

He has appeared in films including Escape from Alcatraz (1979) as Charley Butts, Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987) as Doobie, Home Alone (1990) as Officer Balzak, Pretty Woman (1990) as the landlord, and Billy Madison (1995) as Carl Alphonse. Television credits include Mr Heckles in Friends and Old Joe in Breaking Bad (2008) and El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie (2019). He received an Academy Award nomination for the short film Solly's Diner (1980), which he wrote, directed and starred in.
