Biography
Lawrence Turman (28 November 1926 – 1 July 2023) was an American film producer. Born in Los Angeles, he produced more than 40 films across a career spanning six decades.
He is best known as producer of The Graduate (1967), which received an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture. Other credits include The Thing (1982), Short Circuit (1986), The River Wild (1994) and American History X (1998). Turman also directed two films: The Marriage of a Young Stockbroker (1971) and Second Thoughts (1983).
With partner David Foster he formed the Turman-Foster Company. From 1991 until his retirement he directed the Peter Stark Producing Program at the University of Southern California. He wrote the book So You Want to Be a Producer (2005).
