Biography
Lee Montague (born Leonard Goldberg) was an English actor. Born on 16 October 1927 in Bow, London, he trained at the Old Vic Theatre School and began his career in the early 1950s.
His film credits include Moulin Rouge (1952), Billy Budd (1962), Brother Sun, Sister Moon (1972), Mahler (1974), Jesus of Nazareth (1977) and The Legacy (1978). On television he appeared in series including Space: 1999 (1975), Holocaust (1978), Dempsey and Makepeace (1985–86) and Bergerac. He was the first storyteller on the BBC children's programme Jackanory in 1965.
Montague was married to the actress Ruth Goring from 1955 until her death in 2023; they had two children. He died on 30 March 2025, aged 97.
