Biography
Lee Philips, born Leon Friedman, was an American actor and television director. He began his career as an actor on Broadway and in films, including a starring role as Michael Rossi in the 1957 adaptation of Peyton Place.
From the late 1950s he focused primarily on directing, with credits on series including The Dick Van Dyke Show (1961), The Andy Griffith Show (1960), Kung Fu (1972), The Waltons (1972), MASH (1972) and Diagnosis: Murder (1993). He also directed numerous television films and miniseries, such as The Girl Most Likely To... (1973) and Mae West* (1982), for which he received an Emmy nomination.
Philips was born on 10 January 1927 in New York City and died on 3 March 1999 in Brentwood, California.
