Biography

Lee Sung Jin, also known as Sonny Lee, is a South Korean-born American screenwriter, director and producer. He was born in Seoul on 2 October 1981 and studied economics at the University of Pennsylvania before moving to Los Angeles. After various jobs and an internship at Barsuk Records, his first paid writing position was as a staff writer and executive story editor on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

He has written for series including 2 Broke Girls, Silicon Valley, The Real O'Neals, Tuca & Bertie and Dave. Lee created, wrote, directed and executive produced the Netflix series Beef (2023), for which he won Primetime Emmy Awards in 2023 for outstanding writing and directing for a limited or anthology series.
