Liam Gallagher

Hands clasped behind his back and head tilted, Liam Gallagher is recognisable before he has sung a note. His nasal snarl favours attitude over polish, but the melodic phrasing matters too: there is more to the performance than looking ready for an argument. On screen, he repeatedly appears as himself in documentaries and concert films about Oasis and his solo work. That gives film-makers a familiar presence to work with, though familiarity can make them reluctant to ask much of him.

Oasis: Supersonic (2016), with its archive and interviews, looks back at the band's early rise. Liam Gallagher: As It Was (2019) follows the solo comeback after Oasis, and Oasis Knebworth 1996 (2021) returns to a major live performance. By Oasis: Don't Look Back in Anger (2026), he is back on stage with Noel Gallagher for the band's 2025 reunion tour.

Directors Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace make that reunion film an enjoyable record of an occasion, with the music and the fans given much of the attention. Its most welcome interruptions come from Liam and Noel Gallagher, whose sardonic commentary makes the celebration less solemn. We laughed at their dry remarks because, after so much testimony about the band's importance, the change of tone was a relief. Southern and Lovelace leave space for the humour instead of treating every contribution as another reason to admire Oasis. Gallagher benefits from being allowed to do something besides receive affection.

The limitation is how little else the film asks of him. Repetitive fan testimony takes up time, while the reunion itself is accepted without much examination. That suits a concert documentary intent on preserving the pleasure of seeing Liam and Noel on stage together, but it leaves little for anyone hoping to understand how the return became possible. We recommend Oasis: Don't Look Back in Anger for the songs and the company, with that reservation firmly attached. A future director could usefully keep the jokes and ask a few more questions.
