Biography
Liao Ching-sung (also credited as Ching-Song Liao and others) is a Taiwanese film editor. Born on 5 March 1950, he began his career in 1974 as an editing technician at the Central Motion Picture Corporation in Taipei.
He is known for his extensive work with directors of the Taiwan New Wave, particularly Hou Hsiao-hsien. Liao has edited the majority of Hou's films from The Boys from Fengkuei (1983) onwards, including Dust in the Wind (1986), Flowers of Shanghai (1998), Millennium Mambo (2001), Three Times (2005) and The Assassin (2015). He has also edited films by Edward Yang, such as Terrorizers (1986).
In addition to editing, Liao has worked as a producer and co-writer. He received the Special Contribution Award at the 55th Golden Horse Awards in 2018, as well as two Golden Horse Awards for Outstanding Taiwanese Filmmaker of the Year.
