Biography
Chu Tien-Wen (also credited as T'ien-wen Chu or Zhu Tianwen) is a Taiwanese screenwriter and fiction writer. Born on 24 August 1956 in Taipei, she graduated from Tamkang University and began publishing short stories while still at school.
She is best known for her long collaboration with director Hou Hsiao-Hsien, writing or co-writing screenplays for films including The Boys from Fengkuei (1983), Taipei Story (1985), A City of Sadness (1989), The Puppetmaster (1993), Millennium Mambo (2001) and The Assassin (2015). She has also adapted her own literary works for the screen and received several Golden Horse Awards for her screenplays, as well as the 2015 Newman Prize for Chinese Literature.
