Biography
Lisa Holdsworth is a British television writer and playwright. She began her screenwriting career with a standalone episode of the ITV series Fat Friends after working as personal assistant to Kay Mellor. She subsequently joined the writing team on the soap opera Emmerdale for several years.
Her subsequent credits include multiple episodes of New Tricks, Waterloo Road, Robin Hood, Midsomer Murders, A Discovery of Witches (where she served as co-showrunner on series 3), All Creatures Great and Small and Call the Midwife. She created and executive produced the Channel 4 series Dreamers, broadcast in 2025. In 2011 she won the Writer of the Year award at the RTS Yorkshire Awards for her work on Waterloo Road.
Holdsworth has also written for radio and the stage, including the adaptation Black Teeth and a Brilliant Smile about playwright Andrea Dunbar, which opened in 2019. She served as Chair of the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain from 2019 to 2023.
