Biography
Liz Garbus (born Elizabeth Freya Garbus) is an American director and producer of documentaries and scripted television and film. She graduated magna cum laude from Brown University in 1992 with a degree in history and semiotics.
Garbus is best known for documentaries including The Farm: Angola, USA (1998), Bobby Fischer Against the World (2011), What Happened, Miss Simone? (2015) and I'll Be Gone in the Dark (2020). Her narrative feature debut was Lost Girls (2020). She has directed episodes of the series The Handmaid's Tale (2017) and Yellowjackets (2021), and the docuseries Harry & Meghan (2022). She co-founded the production company Story Syndicate with her husband, Dan Cogan.
Garbus is a two-time Academy Award nominee and two-time Emmy winner.
