Biography

Luca Canfora was an Italian costume designer. Born in Naples in 1972, he trained at the Filippo Palizzi State Institute of Art before moving to Rome, where he began his career at the tailor's shop of the Teatro dell'Opera.

He collaborated with designers including Danilo Donati, Maurizio Millenotti, Gabriella Pescucci and Milena Canonero on films such as Pinocchio (2002), The Passion of the Christ (2004) and The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014). From 2013 he worked extensively with Paolo Sorrentino on projects including The Great Beauty (2013, as assistant costume designer), Youth (2015), Loro (2018), The Young Pope (2016) and The New Pope (2020), the last two co-designed with Carlo Poggioli. He designed the costumes for The Two Popes (2019). Canfora received a Nastro d'Argento for The Young Pope and a Satellite Award nomination for The Two Popes. He died in Capri in 2023.
