Biography
Maaya Sakamoto is a Japanese voice actress, actress and singer. She made her voice acting debut in 1992 in the anime Little Twins and rose to prominence voicing Hitomi Kanzaki in The Vision of Escaflowne (1996). She has since provided voices for numerous anime and film roles, including Haruhi Fujioka in Ouran High School Host Club, Shinobu Oshino in the Monogatari series, Shiki Ryōgi in the Kara no Kyoukai films, Merlin in The Seven Deadly Sins, Eto Yoshimura in Tokyo Ghoul, and Aerith Gainsborough in Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (2005). In 2022 she voiced Haruko Akagi in the film The First Slam Dunk.
Sakamoto was born on 31 March 1980 in Itabashi, Tokyo. She attended Toyo University and has also pursued a singing career, releasing her debut single in 1996 in collaboration with Yoko Kanno. Several of her singles and albums have charted in the top ten on the Oricon charts. She has been married to voice actor Ken'ichi Suzumura since 2011.
