Biography
Machiko Washio is a Japanese actress and voice actress. Born on 2 June 1949 in Kanagawa Prefecture, she began her career in 1966 and has worked in both live-action theatre, film and television, and anime voice roles.
She is best known for voicing Sakura in the television series Urusei Yatsura (1981–1986) and its films, including Urusei Yatsura: Only You (1983) and Urusei Yatsura 2: Beautiful Dreamer (1984). Other notable voice roles include Okami in Castle in the Sky (1986) and the Teacher in My Neighbor Totoro (1988).
Washio has appeared in live-action films such as The Red Spectacles (1987) as Midori Washio and Adrift in Tokyo (2007). She was previously married to actor Shu Nakajima.
