Biography
Madeline Fontaine is a French costume designer. She began working in film in the early 1980s as an assistant and became lead costume designer on The City of Lost Children (1995).
She has collaborated frequently with director Jean-Pierre Jeunet on films including Amélie (2001), A Very Long Engagement (2004), Micmacs (2009) and Bigbug (2022). Other credits include Jackie (2016), Yves Saint Laurent (2014) and Asterix & Obelix: The Middle Kingdom (2023). She has also designed for television series such as Versailles (2015–2018).
Fontaine has won three César Awards for Best Costume Design, for A Very Long Engagement, Séraphine (2009) and How to Be a Good Wife (2020). She received a BAFTA Award for Jackie and was nominated for an Academy Award for the same film. She has served as president of the French Association of Film and Audiovisual costumers (AFCCA).
