Biography
Mansai Nomura is a Japanese kyōgen performer and film actor. Born Takeshi Nomura on 5 April 1966 in Tokyo, he trained at Tokyo University of the Arts and made his screen debut as the blind Tsurumaru in Akira Kurosawa's Ran (1985).
He is known for portraying Abe no Seimei in Onmyoji (2001) and its 2003 sequel, for which he received the Blue Ribbon Award for Best Actor. Other film roles include the voice of Giovanni Battista Caproni in The Wind Rises (2013) and motion-capture work as Godzilla in Shin Godzilla (2016). Nomura has also directed stage productions that fuse traditional kyōgen with contemporary theatre.
