Biography
Marc Norman (born 10 February 1941) is an American screenwriter, novelist and playwright. He began his career in the mailroom at Universal Studios in the mid-1960s and later wrote for television series including Get Smart and an episode of Mission: Impossible (1966).
Norman wrote several feature films in the 1970s, including Oklahoma Crude (1973), Zandy’s Bride (1974), The Killer Elite (1975) and Breakout (1975). In 1995 he contributed to the screenplay for Cutthroat Island. He is best known as co-writer, with Tom Stoppard, of the screenplay for Shakespeare in Love (1998); the pair won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay, and Norman shared the Best Picture Oscar as a producer of the film.
Norman earned an MA in English literature from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1964. He is also the author of the non-fiction work What Happens Next: A History of American Screenwriting (2007).
