Biography
Margaret Bert (4 June 1896 – 1 May 1971) was an American character actress. Born Margaret Birtwistle in Blackburn, Lancashire, England, she began her film career in silent pictures with an uncredited role in The Blackbird (1926). She appeared as the Fortune Teller (uncredited) in The Unknown (1927).
Bert worked extensively from the 1930s to the 1950s, mostly in uncredited parts in more than 150 feature films, shorts and television shows. She had occasional named supporting roles, including Mrs. Rogers in Sarge Goes to College (1947) and Campus Sleuth (1948). Her later credits included appearances in Singin' in the Rain (1952) and Royal Wedding (1951), as well as television episodes of The Roy Rogers Show, The Adventures of Jim Bowie and The Walter Winchell File. Her final screen role was in Petticoat Junction (1964). She died in Sacramento, California.
