Biography
Margaret Lindsay (born Margaret Kies) was an American film actress. She was born on 19 September 1910 in Dubuque, Iowa, and died on 9 May 1981 in Los Angeles.
After studying at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York and working in England, she secured early roles by presenting herself as British. She appeared as Edith Harris in the 1933 film Cavalcade. Lindsay signed a contract with Warner Bros. and became a prolific supporting player in the 1930s, appearing in films such as Baby Face (1933), 'G' Men (1935), Dangerous (1935) and Jezebel (1938).
She later took leading roles in the Ellery Queen series and was praised for her performance as Hepzibah Pyncheon in The House of the Seven Gables (1940). Other notable credits include Scarlet Street (1945), The Spoilers (1942) and Please Don't Eat the Daisies (1960). Her sister Jane Gilbert was also an actress.
