Biography
Margaret Mann (4 April 1868 – 4 February 1941) was a Scottish-American actress. Born in Aberdeen, Scotland, she moved with her family to South Africa at the age of twelve. She worked in various jobs, including as a dressmaker, before her first acting experience at around fifty years old.
Mann began her film career as an extra, primarily at Universal and Triangle studios. She appeared in silent films such as Black Beauty (1921) and played the lead role of Mother Bernle in John Ford's Four Sons (1928). In sound films her parts were typically smaller and often uncredited, including Queen Victoria in Disraeli (1929), a mourner in Frankenstein (1931), and bit roles in Gone with the Wind (1939) and Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939). She was married to James F. Smythe.
