Biography
Martin Ruhe is a German cinematographer. Born in 1965 in Paderborn, North Rhine-Westphalia, he trained as a focus puller before moving to London, where he worked as a runner for a camera rental company. He went on to shoot more than 200 music videos and hundreds of commercials.
Ruhe gained prominence in narrative filmmaking with his work on Anton Corbijn’s Control (2007), a biopic of Joy Division singer Ian Curtis. He collaborated again with Corbijn on The American (2010) and has served as director of photography on films including Harry Brown (2009), Run All Night (2015), American Pastoral (2016), The Midnight Sky (2020) and The Boys in the Boat (2023), as well as the miniseries Catch-22 (2019) and Counterpart (2017–2018).
A member of the American Society of Cinematographers, Ruhe won the ASC Award for Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography for the television film Page Eight (2011).
