Biography
Martina Laird is a Trinidadian British actress of stage, film and television. Born in 1971 in Port of Spain, Trinidad, she moved to the United Kingdom at the age of 17 on a scholarship to study French at the University of Kent at Canterbury, where she also took drama. She later trained at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art on the advice of family friend Derek Walcott.
Laird began her career on stage before appearing in television series including Casualty (as Comfort Jones), Holby City, EastEnders and Unforgotten (as Ebele Falade). Her film credits include Summerland (2020) and The Little Mermaid (2023), in which she played Lashana. She has also worked as a director and acting teacher, and received the Screen Nation Best TV Actress Award in 2004.
