Biography
Marvin Worth (6 June 1925 – 22 April 1998) was an American film producer and screenwriter. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he began his career promoting jazz concerts before moving into comedy management and television writing, including contributions to Get Smart.
Worth was known for biographical projects. He produced the 1974 film Lenny about comedian Lenny Bruce, which earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture. His long-standing effort to adapt The Autobiography of Malcolm X resulted in a 1972 documentary (nominated for Best Documentary Feature) and the 1992 feature film directed by Spike Lee, on which he served as producer.
Other producing credits include The Rose (1979), See No Evil, Hear No Evil (1989) and Diabolique (1996). He received a Peabody Award for his television work and shared an NAACP Image Award for Malcolm X.
