She has appeared in films and television series including Mudbound (2017) as Florence Jackson, Rock of Ages (2012) as Justice, The Umbrella Academy (2019) as Cha-Cha, Trolls World Tour (2020) voicing Queen Essence, Sherlock Gnomes (2018) voicing Irene, Ghost Whisperer (2005) as Jackie Boyd, How to Get Away with Murder (2014) as Rolanda, Scream: The TV Series (2015) as Sherry Elliot, Empire (2015) as Angie, and 30 Rock (2006) as herself.
She is credited as Self in the 2018 documentary Quincy. Blige received Academy Award nominations for Best Supporting Actress and Best Original Song for Mudbound.
