Biography

Matthew Whittet is an Australian actor, writer and producer. He was born on 4 June 1975 in Hastings, Victoria, and graduated from the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) with a degree in Performing Arts (Acting) in 1997.

He made his feature film debut as Satie in Baz Luhrmann's Moulin Rouge! (2001). Subsequent screen roles include Brother Frank in Australia (2008), Vladimir Tostoff in The Great Gatsby (2013), and Conrad / the Abject Man in Girl Asleep (2015), which he also wrote. He has appeared in other films including Sleeping Beauty (2011) and The Nightingale (2018), as well as television series such as Upright (2019).

As a screenwriter, Whittet received nominations for the screenplay of Girl Asleep at the AACTA, AFCA and FCCA awards.
