Biography

Matty Malneck was an American composer, jazz violinist, songwriter and bandleader. Born in Newark, New Jersey, on 9 December 1903, he began his professional career as a violinist at the age of 16. He played in the Paul Whiteman orchestra from 1926 to 1937 and recorded with artists including Frank Signorelli, Frankie Trumbauer, Bix Beiderbecke and Mildred Bailey.

Malneck led his own big band in the late 1930s and composed several popular standards, among them "Goody Goody", "I'm Thru With Love" and "I'll Never Be the Same". His film work included the musical score for Witness for the Prosecution (1957) and contributions as music supervisor and conductor on Some Like It Hot (1959). He died in Hollywood, California, on 25 February 1981.
