Biography
Maurice Moscovitch, also credited as Maurice Moscovich and born Morris Maaskov, was a Russian-American actor. He was born in Odessa in the Russian Empire and began his stage career there in 1885. He emigrated to the United States no later than 1897 and performed for decades in the Yiddish theatre in New York, later appearing in two Broadway productions in 1930.
In the final four years of his life he played supporting roles in fourteen Hollywood films, often portraying wise older men, frequently of Jewish background. His credits include Make Way for Tomorrow (1937) as Max Rubens, Love Affair (1939) as Maurice Cobert, In Name Only (1939) as Dr. Muller, and The Great Dictator (1940) as Mr. Jaeckel. He was the father of actor Noel Madison. Moscovitch died in Los Angeles on 18 June 1940, aged 68, following surgery.
