Biography
Maxime Alexandre is a Belgian-Italian cinematographer. Born on 4 February 1971 in Ronse, East Flanders, Belgium, he moved with his family to Rome at the age of five. His stepfather, Inigo Lezzi, worked as an assistant director on Italian films, and Alexandre appeared as a child actor in productions including Une page d'amour (1980) and Bianca (1984).
He began working in the camera department in the late 1980s after his family relocated to Paris, serving as an assistant on commercials and learning from cinematographers such as Darius Khondji, Jean-Yves Escoffier and Tonino Delli Colli. His early credits as director of photography include second-unit work on a Michel Gondry commercial. In 2003 he collaborated with director Alexandre Aja on High Tension, beginning a long association that continued on films including The Hills Have Eyes (2006), Crawl (2019) and Never Let Go (2024).
Alexandre has worked extensively in horror, serving as director of photography on Mirrors (2008), The Crazies (2010), Annabelle: Creation (2017), The Nun (2018), Shazam! (2019) and Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2021). He is a member of the American Society of Cinematographers and has also directed features under the name Max Sender.
