Biography
Maysie Hoy is a film editor born on 21 August 1949 in Vancouver. She began her career in the 1970s working with director Robert Altman, first in acting and production roles on films including McCabe & Mrs. Miller (1971), Nashville (1975) and 3 Women (1977), before moving into editing as an apprentice on Buffalo Bill and the Indians (1976). She trained at the American Film Institute's Directing Workshop for Women in 1977.
Hoy's editing credits include The Player (1992, co-edited), The Joy Luck Club (1993), Smoke (1995), Freeway (1996), What Dreams May Come (1998) and Breakthrough (2019). She has edited sixteen films for director Tyler Perry. She received two American Cinema Editors award nominations and the organisation's Career Achievement Award in 2025. Her brother William Hoy is also a film editor.
