Biography
Menno Meyjes is a Dutch screenwriter, film director and producer. He moved to the United States in 1972 and studied at the San Francisco Art Institute.
His first produced screenplay was for The Color Purple (1985), directed by Steven Spielberg. He received Academy Award and BAFTA Award nominations for Best Adapted Screenplay. He co-wrote the story for Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989) with George Lucas and won a Goya Award for the screenplay of the Spanish film Twisted Obsession (1989). He also contributed to Empire of the Sun (1987).
Meyjes made his directorial debut with Max (2002), which he also wrote. Subsequent directing credits include Martian Child (2007) and A Matador's Mistress (2008). He later returned to the Netherlands, where he directed adaptations such as The Dinner (2013).
