Biography
Michael Cumpsty is an English actor. He was born on 26 February 1960 in Wakefield, Yorkshire, and was educated at Haileybury College before receiving a BA in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1982.
Cumpsty made his Broadway debut in Artist Descending a Staircase (1989). His stage work includes Racing Demon (1995), Copenhagen (2000), Democracy (2004), Machinal (2014), and musicals such as the 1997 revival of 1776, 42nd Street (2001), Sunday in the Park with George (2008), and End of the Rainbow (2012), for which he received a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actor in a Play. His film credits include The Ice Storm (1997) as Philip Edwards, Flags of Our Fathers (2006), Eat Pray Love (2010), and Collateral Beauty (2016). Television appearances include Boardwalk Empire, Severance (2022) as Doug Graner, Barry (2018), and The OA (2016).
