Biography

Michael Cunningham is an American novelist and screenwriter. Born on 6 November 1952 in Cincinnati, Ohio, he studied English literature at Stanford University and earned an MFA from the Iowa Writers' Workshop.

He is best known for his 1998 novel The Hours, which won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and the PEN/Faulkner Award in 1999. His other credits include the novel A Home at the End of the World (1990) and screenplays for the film adaptations Evening (2007) and A Home at the End of the World (2004). He wrote a teleplay for an episode of the series Masters of Sex (2013).

Cunningham is professor in the practice of creative writing at Yale University.
