Biography
Michael O'Donoghue (also credited as Michael 'Bud' O'Donoghue and Mr. Mike) was an American writer, actor and comedian. Born Michael Henry Donohue on 5 January 1940 in Sauquoit, New York, he died on 8 November 1994 in New York City.
He contributed to National Lampoon magazine and was the first head writer of Saturday Night Live, delivering the show's first spoken line in 1975. He created the recurring Mr. Mike character and won two Primetime Emmy Awards for his SNL writing. His acting credits include the role of Dennis in Woody Allen's Manhattan (1979), a reporter in Wall Street (1987) and a priest in Scrooged (1988), which he co-wrote. He also appeared in and directed Mr. Mike's Mondo Video (1979).
O'Donoghue was married to Cheryl Hardwick from 1986 and earlier to Janice Bickel.
