Biography

Michael Reed (also credited as Mike Reed) was a British cinematographer. He began his career in the early 1950s in the camera department at Hammer Films, working as a clapper loader and focus puller before becoming director of photography on films including The Ugly Duckling (1959) and several Hammer horror productions such as The Gorgon (1964), Dracula: Prince of Darkness (1966) and Rasputin: The Mad Monk (1966).

He served as second-unit director of photography on the James Bond films Goldfinger (1964), Thunderball (1965) and You Only Live Twice (1967). Reed was director of photography on On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969). His other credits include Shout at the Devil (1976), The Passage (1979) and television series such as The Saint, The New Avengers and Philip Marlowe, Private Eye.

Reed was a member of the British Society of Cinematographers. He died on 15 December 2022.
