Biography

Michael Wittenborn is a German actor. Born on 31 May 1953 in Bielefeld, he trained at the Otto-Falckenberg-Schule in Munich and began his career in the early 1980s with stage engagements at theatres including the Wuppertaler Bühnen, Staatstheater Stuttgart and Theater Basel.

He has been a company member at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg (1993–2000 and from 2013), the Münchner Kammerspiele (until 2004), the Burgtheater Vienna (until 2007) and the Schauspiel Köln (2007–2013). On screen he is known for supporting roles in films including Mostly Martha (2001), Yella (2007), Toni Erdmann (2016) as Henneberg, and All Quiet on the Western Front (2022). He received the Preis der Deutschen Akademie für Fernsehen for his performance in the series Merz gegen Merz (2019–2021).

Wittenborn is married to theatre director Karin Beier; they have one child.
