Biography
Michalis Giannatos, also credited as Mihalis Giannatos or Michael Yannatos, was a Greek actor. Born in Constantinople, Turkey, on 11 July 1941, he moved to Greece in 1964. He studied at Konstantinos Demopoulos' drama school and made his professional film debut in Oi stigmatismenoi (1966).
Over a career spanning 1966 to 2013 he appeared in close to 100 films, television series and plays. He was a regular in the films of Theodoros Angelopoulos from Megalexandros (1980) onwards, including Landscape in the Mist (1988). Fluent in Greek, Turkish, French, Italian and Spanish, he took roles in international productions such as Midnight Express (1978), Captain Corelli's Mandolin (2001) and Munich (2005). He died in Athens on 17 September 2013.
